End Of Year Dates and Plans

End of Year Dates and Plans

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

I hope this email finds you and your family healthy and doing well during the extended closure of school.  With this in mind I wanted to share the plan for the remainder of the school year as it relates to school work, the last day of school for students and locker clean out.

First, I want to make sure that all students taking AP courses, Apex online courses and Dual Credit courses through Southwest Technical College understand that the below dates do not apply to these classes.  These students have already been informed that they must complete these courses per the guidelines of each program and that Pecatonica cannot alter these requirements.  I ask students to contact their teachers if they need further clarification.

Our seniors will be provided school work through Wednesday, May 6.  At this time, no new work will be assigned and seniors will have until Wednesday, May 20 to get all current and missing work turned in for credit.  These two weeks fulfill our policy of providing an Incomplete for missing work.  However, at the end of the day on May 20 all missing work will become a zero in the gradebook and averaged accordingly.

Students in grades 6-11 will be provided school work through Friday, May 15.  At this time, no new school work will be assigned and students will have until Friday, May 29 to get all current and missing work turned in for credit.  These two weeks fulfill our policy of providing an Incomplete for missing work.  However, at the end of the day on May 29 all missing work will become a zero in the gradebook and averaged accordingly.

I hope that this plan will provide a sense of stress relief for students and parents. I feel it will help knowing these dates and that there is ample time to complete all school work while knowing that no additional work will be added the last two weeks.  This should also allow teachers more opportunity for one to one time for those students that may need it.

I know that many students will be done prior to the two weeks and will be looking for more. So, as a staff we agreed that we will still provide enrichment lessons/activities for those students that are interested.  These will not be graded nor do they need to be turned in.  We will continue to use the Lesson Plan documents and place them on the website as well as email the MS document home.

As for MS/HS lockers, we decided yesterday that we will clean out all of the students lockers and place their items in a bag and then label it.  We will also be working to do the same for PE lockers. Please note that we will keep all textbooks and library books that are in lockers.  I feel students should have everything they need at this time.  Once this process has been completed, I will send a follow up email indicating how and where these items can be picked up.  I will also share our plan to return chromebooks and other classroom materials in the near future.

Finally, I want to thank all of our students, parents and guardians for their hard work during our Distance Learning.  I know there have been days of feeling overwhelmed and frustrated as we began this journey into something that we have never done before or ever thought we would have to deal with in our lives.  With that said, I must thank you for your patience and kind words shared with our staff as they have worked so hard to make sure that all of our students have been taken care of.

Sincerely,

Paul Manriquez
