2015-16 School and District Report Cards Released

The Pecatonica Area School District earned three stars on state report cards from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, issued for the 2015-16 school year. Based on the star rating, The Pecatonica Area School District meets expectations for educating students, or a score of 70.8%. It should be noted that 81% of Wisconsin public schools met or exceeded expectations statewide.

Report cards are issued based on four priority areas: student achievement in English language arts and mathematics, student growth, closing achievement gaps between student populations, and measures of “readiness” college or career success. While school and district report cards provide information to the community, they do not represent a full picture of the work happening at our school.

Pecatonica High School shows above-state-average student achievement in mathematics, and solid student growth above state average in mathematics also. Our graduation rate is well above the state average and our overall “On-Track and Postsecondary Readiness” is at 91.8% (meaning that nearly 92% of our students, by the time they graduate, are prepared for post-secondary college opportunities or career opportunities).

Pecatonica Elementary School shows exceedingly good growth in mathematics achievement.

Our report card is used by the school district to identify areas of success and help us narrow down areas of concern. It allows us to identify where we need to place precious human resources and financial resources to improve student success. Based on this report card, we need to focus on English language arts in both school buildings. To help achieve the goal of increasing our achievement in all academic areas, the High School, for the first time, will be offering ACT prep classes for sophomores and juniors at no cost to families. We will also offer additional skill preparation for elementary students in technology, study skills, and in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

For the 2013-14 school year, the last time a report card was released, the Pecatonica Area School District scored a 75.3, or Exceeds Expectations. However, it should be noted that comparing the new and old report cards is not advised due to the many changes in how the categories were calculated this year compared to two years ago. These changes include variable weighting to address the impacts of poverty on student achievement, a new model for measuring student growth based on value-added methodology developed by UW-Madison, and the legislative requirement to change from the Badger Exam to the Forward Exam. Essentially the report cards are based on data from two different tests and different methodologies.
